The section of trail between west Port Angeles
and the Elwha River is expected to be completed by 2010. The
old railroad grade west of 10th St is currently being converted
to trail and is passable except for the Dry Creek bridge, which will not
be installed until 2010. At the Elwha River the trail crosses on a
lower level of the new vehicle bridge to be finished in 2009. The
route from the river to Highway 112 is presently on the Elwha River
Road but will be relocated to a separated
trail above the road later. The future route of the multi-user
version of the Olympic Discovery Trail west
of the Elwha River
will be north of SR 112 roughly following the route of the old railroad
line. The future route will connect into the Lyre River Railroad grade near
Gossett Road where it will turn south to continue its path to Lake
Crescent and its intersection with the Spruce Railroad Trail.
Note that
the Adventure Route to Lake
Crescent is not suited for road bicycles, as it is primarily
unpaved single-track trail. |
