Climbing the steep trail onto Steamboat rock brings you to a prairie plateau allowing walking in any direction for almost a mile. Cliffs around the rock are steep and dangerous. The trail is the only way down. Northrup Canyon is popular with hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Exploring the rock formations between Northrup Homestead and Northrup Lake is especially interesting.
